Production planning in brief

The topics of the module in short — each in a single summary sentence, with a few pictures. The detailed description is in the Production planning system overview.

01

Introduction

Production planning schedules the orders coming from your ERP step by step on a Gantt board, based on each article's routing. It uses the same engine as Project-based planning, but with completely separate data and permissions.

02

Access and permissions

The permissions of the module are role-based and independent of Project-based planning: there is a separate permission for viewing and for editing the Gantt, for data management (orders, articles, routing, field definitions), for viewing orders, and for sensitive fields, which the admin assigns on the Admin → Permissions tab.

03

Screen layout

On the left is the Orders panel (the list and the details of the selected order), at the top the “Custom insert” bar, below it the legend and the Gantt board with one row per resource; on a narrow screen the panel can be pulled out with a button.

04

Orders panel

In the panel, orders can be searched, filtered and sorted, and added manually or by Excel import (existing ones are updated based on the identifier keys). Status icons show when an order has no routing, is scheduled, or is only partly scheduled, and “Order details” lists the blocks of the selected order.

05

Articles and routing

On the Articles panel, besides the article master data (identifier, name, active), the routing can also be edited: any number of production and post-processing steps, with several resources per step, each with a cycle time (sec/piece) and a packaging quantity, which Processing builds on.

06

View and navigation

The arrows in the top bar, the “Today” button and the date picker move through time, the Weeks and Resolution fields set the scale of the timeline, Refresh reloads the data, the Export menu produces the two Excel files, and the gear icon opens the field definitions.

07

Gantt board, blocks

The rows of the Gantt are the resources; the coloured blocks differ by type (production, tool, exclusion, machine breakdown, maintenance, tool trial, leave, other). The text of a block comes from the fields the admin has switched on, the tooltip shows every field line by line, and red pulsing marks a partly scheduled order.

08

Adding a block — Custom

In the “Custom insert” bar, after you enter the Operation, the component, the start, the duration and the block fields, the “+” button of a resource shows a pale green ghost block, which you can fine-tune by dragging and then approve with ✓ or discard with ✕.

09

Processing

Processing schedules an order step by step: it narrows the Gantt to the resources of the routing, a green arrow pulses in the rows of the current step, the size of the block is determined by the quantity (which can be split across several resources), the OEE % and the changeover, and on Finish an order that is still incomplete gets a red mark.

10

Moving a block

Saved blocks that are not fixed can be moved in time within the same resource by dragging and stretched by their edges, while the boundaries of neighbouring fixed blocks and the locking protect other people's work; when you click a block, the Start of the insert bar jumps to the end of the block (to its beginning with Ctrl).

11

Custom fields

The admin can define custom fields on the article, the order and the block (type, required, sensitive, section, “shown on the block”, data totals). Block fields are filled in on the “Edit block” panel, and split sibling blocks share the values.

12

Data totals

With the Data totals button, the header of the Gantt shows, per shift and per day, the sum or the maximum of the number and currency fields you have marked. Nothing is stored, it is always recalculated from the current plan.

13

Edit locking

The system automatically locks the resource someone is editing, so the padlock icon and the “Locked: name” error bar prevent conflicts. The lock is valid for 60 seconds and is renewed, it follows the server clock, and a larger deviation of your computer's clock is flagged by a yellow warning.

14

Bulk assignment (Batch)

The Batch panel adds the same order-independent event (for example planned maintenance) to several selected resources in one step, with a given start and end time.

15

Excel exports

The Export menu produces two files: the Weekly plan shows the blocks per resource and per day (for order blocks with start, duration, quantity, step, article number and manufacturing order number), and the Shift totals file contains the per-shift and daily Data totals.

Related admin

In the Admin area you can set the Production planning visibility and colour of the resources, the order of the Gantt, the items of the Operation list (GyartasProcess), as well as the global default language and the company currency.

Quick reference

The quick reference collects the most common mouse and keyboard actions, buttons and markings in one table, so they can be looked up quickly during daily work.
